California Attorney General Rob Bonta has issued guidance to reproductive healthcare providers from states with near-total abortion bans, reminding them of their rights and protections when providing services in California. The guidance comes ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s oral argument in the Idaho v. United States case.

Bonta emphasized California's support for providers willing to practice in the state, stating, “From Idaho to Arizona, draconian abortion bans implemented nationwide have put millions of lives at risk... we will ensure that our state continues to be a safe haven for all providers of essential reproductive healthcare.”

The guidance covers specific California laws safeguarding medical professionals offering abortion services, ensuring their protection and access to necessary resources. It also addresses the protection of information and medical credentials for out-of-state providers.

With 21 states currently imposing abortion bans or restrictions, the issued guidance aims to empower medical professionals in California. Bonta highlighted, "California has your back and is armed with resources and safeguarding measures should you seek to obtain or provide care in our state."

Medical professionals in California are assured of their rights to provide abortion healthcare and protection from out-of-state anti-abortion laws. The guidance also outlines procedures for reporting violations and accessing expedited licensing processes for providers planning to practice abortion healthcare in California.

The full guidance can be accessed on the California Attorney General’s website for medical professionals seeking to understand their rights and protections when providing reproductive healthcare in the state.
