SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom announced several key appointments on April 24, 2024.
Jason Tam, a Democrat from San Francisco, has been appointed to the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs. Tam's diverse background includes roles such as President of Golden Goose Partners, eXp Realty of California, Vice President of the San Francisco Building Inspection Commission, and President of the San Francisco Abatement Appeals Board. Notably, Tam is a member of the San Francisco Police Department Asian and Pacific Islander Committee. This appointment does not require Senate confirmation and comes with no compensation.
Michael Allen, also a Democrat, from Santa Rosa, has been reappointed to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. Allen brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as a California State Assemblymember and District Director in the Office of State Senator Patricia Wiggins. His professional background includes positions such as Executive Director of the Service Employees International Union Local 707 and Psychiatric Registered Nurse for the County of Sonoma Mental Health Department. Julia Clauson, a resident of Fair Oaks, has been appointed to the State Board of Education. Clauson's background includes serving as the Executive Director of the Authors of Tomorrow and holding leadership roles in various educational initiatives. Notably, Clauson is not registered to vote. Her appointment does not require Senate confirmation and offers a compensation of $100 per diem.
